Been a busy bee

Well its been a while since my last post. I have been busy setting up a new wordpress website and more importantly I have finally been compiling my releases. Last year seemed to be very focused around gigs and performing but now I am putting some Eps and an album together as my library of songs is constantly growing and the temptation is to just keep writing new songs, while the recorded ones pile up. Choosing the songs, mastering, creating artwork, it all takes too much time! But I am ploughing on and my first EP, which will be part of a series, should be ready in a couple of weeks. I shall post a link for my new website/blog too, as soon as it goes live.

Thank you 2011!

Thank you everyone for all your support in 2011 especially to Jamie Matthews, Lizzie Waddling, Nick Duffy and Hugh Cowling for being such great musicians. Some highlights included playing at the ICA, at Daylight Music at Union Chapel, and being played on Radio 3's Late junction and Jarvis Cocker's show. 2012 should be an exciting year with the forthcoming release of my debut album. Happy New Year xxMinko

Mrs Magpie video

When Magpie Magazine asked me to make a video of myself reading the magazine for a film project of theirs, like a homing pigeon I found myself writing a song first. The words became about a magpie and the treasures it has hidden away. Mrs Magpie finds me walking in the winter puddles and leads me to her nest, full of sunshine. A friend recently showed me a German cartoon about a mouse that collects sun rays and colours in the summer and stores them up for the winter. I loved this idea. At the end it took on a twist of a love song with Mrs Magpie saying that Mr Magpie brings her the best (to the nest). Rather than seeing magpies as compulsive stealing horders, I now see them as romantic birds finding each other shiny things. Bling birds!

You can see the magazine's amazing film project here

This is a video I made for the song...

Last night 'Lemon Psyche' was played on Radio 3's Late Junction. I'm so excited! It's my holy grail and favourite radio show of all time. Happy Minko :)

Port Eliot 2011

Here some footage from Port Eliot performing "I Miss You Tomorrow" a new song. I wrote the words a while back and they hadnt found the right song but just before Port Eliot I was jamming some music and the words popped back into my head. Its unusual that it happens this way with the words and music taking so much time to coincide. Anyway here is the first performance with some other bits of festival footage including nipping around on a buggy...:)

I'm playing at Port Eliot 2011

I'll be playing an acoustic set at Port Eliot this year, guitar, banjo and singing, as a duo with Nick Duffy. Possibly unplugged too if the wind isnt howling too loud. We'll be in the Profwriting tent, playing on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Come along through the plashy fen if you can! The rest of the time I"ll probably be sitting under the chocolate crepe stall!
